Escort Max 360 Review

In-depth Escort Max 360 Review

It's been decades in the making but Escort has finally given us a radar detector with the capability of threat-source identification (ie; directional arrows).  Often discounted by some vendors (who couldn't sell the V1) as an unnecessary feature, the driving cognoscenti knew better.

With the introduction of the Escort Max 360, Escort is now able to capitalize on the one thing that has long-been missing from their arsenal, directional arrows which provide advanced situational awareness that comes with informing the driver of not only what the threats are, but from where they are coming.

But that's not the end of the story.  Escort is now able to offer the levels of situational awareness, in the radar detector itself, that the V1 can only dream of...

FULL REVIEW: Beltronics GT-7 Radar Detector Review by Veil Guy

FULL REVIEW: Beltronics GT-7 Radar Detector

Full Review: Beltronics GT-7 Radar Detector

I've had the pleasure of spending some serious seat time driving with the new Beltronics GT-7 radar detector throughout a multi-state trip for the purposes of writing this in-depth full review.

While some may think of the Beltronics GT-7 as simply a rebadged Passport Max radar detector for $50 less, after actually driving with one, it's very clear to me that such claims are inaccurate and made by those not really familiar with the intricacies of these two different radar detectors.

While they may share similar hardware, the software differences, I believe, make these detectors distinctly different in character. The new Beltronics GT-7 is a very special radar detector that has reclaimed a distinctively Beltronics personality that's been long lost with the brand.

The mere fact that the Beltronics GT-7 has a slightly lower price point makes it the bargain detector of the M5 platform of radar detectors.

It's safe to say that Beltronics is back and is ready to rumble.

MUST SEE: Escort Max 360 Multi-Source I/O & C/O Ka Encounter

FIRST EVER: Escort Max 360 Multi-Source I/O & C/O Ka Encounter

Escort Max 360 Radar Detector
After this introduction, we set out to find an operating speed trap in New Jersey where they often run 33.8Ghz Ka Instant-On (I/O) police radar.  We wanted to see if the new Escort Max 360 radar detector had the chops to deal with it and we got lucky finding one.

I’m pleased to say, we weren’t disappointed.

Check out the new Escort Max 360 radar detector in action!

Correction to earlier article

In my preview of the Escort Max 360 a couple of weeks ago I stated that this new detector incorporated a dual-LNA setup, similar to the M3 platform of radar detectors from Beltronics and Escort.

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be the case as Escort has made a clarification.  Was the reference to an LNA inclusion a hint of something to come in the future?  I don't know, but that would sure be interesting.

In any event, I wanted to correct the record for my readers and extend my apologies for this miscommunication.

Now that I have had my hands on one, I have updated the original article with the correction and have included some additional information from my first-hand experiences with an early model.

I expect to have a video preview out sometime tomorrow and an interesting real-world multi-Ka band encounter from two different cruisers.  I can say this, pretty confidently: my initial impression is that one day (soon) we may be experiencing other platforms from Escort that eclipse the M3 in sheer detection performance.

As I have felt all along, I believe Escort's better days are ahead of them.

Be sure to follow me on Google+ so you will be immediately notified when those videos are published.

In the meantime, be sure to drive smart and ticket free.

Beltronics GT-7 Review/Preview: Finally Beltronics Gets Some TLC

Beltronics GT-7 Review/Preview

Beltronics radar detectors finally get a face lift.

Beltronics GT-7
Beltronics GT-7 Review

After years of "neglect," Beltronics will be offering some fresh new radar detectors in the coming months.  I couldn't be happier.  The first new product is the Beltronics GT-7 radar detector.

The Beltronics GT-7 radar detector, while not particularly "low-key" in appearance, certainly looks more purposeful-built than it's sibling the Escort Max and may appeal to a younger crowd than the more subtly-designed Escort Max.

Given the refresh, this should put Beltronics' new GT-7 above the performance of their Pro, Vector, and GX-65 series and more on par with Escort's top-of-the-line windshield-mount radar detectors like the Escort Passport Max, Max 2, and Redline.

The Beltronics GT-7 shares similar features and capabilities as both the Passport Max and Max2 radar detectors --at a slightly lower price point--which should place this relative bargain (along with the revised STi Magnum) at the top of the Beltronics line of windshield-mount radar detectors.

The lower slightly price point suggest to me that revised Beltronics line-up has the potential to be the "high-value" line of the ultra-premium detectors available from the parent company. The GT-7 feels to me like the equivalent of an iPhone "S" model that comes behind the primary release of a major model update (that first appears from Escort).

Escort Max 360 Review/Preview: Escort Ups its Game!

Escort Max 360 Review/Preview

Watch out Valentine, the new Escort Max 360 has arrows!
Escort Max 360

Today is a big day for those of us in the radar detector and countermeasure industry. A really big day.

Over the last several decades, Escort has produced some really spectacular and innovative radar detectors.  There have been some real stand-outs—including the Passport 8500 X50, Escort Redline, and the Passport 9500ci.  But as innovative as they all have been, there has always been something "missing" in these radar detectors.

That's all about to change.  Why?

Because Escort has finally given us the one capability that has eluded them (and us) for decades--a fully directional radar detector with both a front and rear facing antenna.

This new radar detector is called the Escort Max 360 and it's Escort's new top-of-line windshield-mount radar detector.

Coupled with the other advanced capabilities of the Escort Max 360, the notion of situational awareness has just been taken to a whole new level.

Cobra DSP 9200 BT Radar Detector Review by the Veil Guy

Cobra DSP 9200 BT Radar Detector Review

Published 9/20/2015

Cobra DSP-9200BT Radar Detector

We recently test drove the new Cobra DSP 9200 BT radar detector to determine if this Cobra radar detector lives up to its billing and its heady price tag.

The Cobra DSP 9200 BT replaces the Cobra SPX-7800BT as the new top-of-the-line radar detector.  For the first time in Cobra's history, this new model features digital signal processing or DSP.

DSP technology brings with it the potential to raise the bar on detector performance, promising the highest levels of radar detection range of any Cobra.

Are the improvements enough to finally give the likes of Beltronics, Escort, and Valentine radar detectors a run for their money?

Close to Home | It Can Wait

Someone close to me shared this video.

Many of us have been distracted by our smartphones while we drive.  I applaud AT&T for the production of this (and other videos) and it is unfortunate that you won't likely see this in its entirety on the telly.

Please share this video with your friends and loved ones.  You might just save a life.

If messaging can't wait, then please consider pulling off of the road, park, and then text to your heart's content.  Trust me, you'll feel better about doing that.

Please drive safe, smart, and mostly without distraction.
